Salt Restaurant and Bar: Fabulous vista over the marina. Great for a drink, lunch or dinner. Magic.
Blue Lagoon Bar and Eatery: Best steak in town and a lovely position over looking the harbour.
Marina Bay Eatery: Great variety of food for every taste bud to be satisfied. Good for sea food.
Blue Ginger: Not licensed but the best vibrant Asian fusion food in town. Delicious.
Grace O’Malley Irish Inn: A vibrant Irish pub with a spectacular view over the harbour with great Irish Kiwi food.
Stocked Restaurant and Bar: Over looking Buffalo Beach is showcases chargrilled food with a smoky flavour.
Kufe: Mediterranean styled eatery overlooking Buffalo Beach.
Sangam: Authentic Indian food using charcoal style cooking to deepen flavours. Best Indian food in town.
The House of Chang Thai: Thai Cuisine.
That Curry Place: Produces great North Indian curry and Thai cuisine.
Smitty’s Sports Bar and Grill: Great pub food with a real Aussie feel.
Whitianga pub: Great pub food and has live music over the summer season in the weekends.
Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club: An amazing view over looking the boat ramp with an excellent pub meal.
Lukes Kitchen: Kuaotunu 18 minute drive away. A must for a meal. Funky laidback atmosphere with the best pizza using local seasonal produce.
The Vessel: 3km from Ferry Landing in Cooks Beach Village. Great spot for a convivial cold one with great pizzas and our casual kiwi vibe.
The Hive: Summer outdoor venue at Purangi close to Cooks Beach. Magic spot for a wood fired pizza and sharing cuisine nestled under the vines.
The Dunes Restaurant and Bar Matarangi: A lovely spot for some kiwi fare over looking Matarangi’s golf course.
Kaizen (means change for better) at Go Vino: Cooks Beach with fabulous fresh seasonal food as a real treat. Out standing food. Ferry then taxi or 20minute walk to get there.
Espy Cafe: Overlooking the playground and harbour this is the fabulous for breakfast, lunch and coffee.
Harbour House Cafe: Next to Espy again anther fab spot for breakfast, lunch and coffee.
Coro Club: Overlooking the airfield the is a cracker of a cafe with delicious food and great coffee.
The French Fig: In the heart of town these guys do good food and the best coffee.
Hula: A healthy options cafe close to the beach with a casual vibe.
Eggsentric: A charming eclectic cafe nestled under trees with great food. Variable hours.
Cafe Coghill House: A lovely restored building with good food and atmosphere just off the main street.
The Earth Store: Amazing whole food vegetarian and vegan and all GF with incredible organic coffee.
Day Walks
Maramaratotara Bay Track walk: 2.5km walk to Pa Site, Maramaratotara Bay then back to the ferry.
Shakespeare Cliff Lookout and Lonely Bay: Our favourite walk and we take all visitors to here. About 5 km from the ferry.
Cathedral Cove Walkway: A must for all visitors. 2.5km return trip. Drive to Hehei and walk the track to Cathedral Cove and back (alternatively get the water taxi one or both ways……conditional on sea conditions). Combine your trip with Hot Water Beach around low tide, dig your hole and let natural hot spring water make you a spa.
New Chums Beach: NZ’s best beach and in the worlds top 10. Another must walk. By Whangapoua.
Cooks Beach Trail: Cooks historic look out is t the Southern end of the beach.
Opito Pa Walk: 2.7 km with stunning views.
Matarangi Bluff Loop via Rings Beach: 5.6 km loop trail with spectacular views and dog friendly.

The Lost Spring: Fabulous morning coffee, lunch, dinner and cocktails in a subtropical paradise….absolutely amazing!
Mat’s Cafe: Something for everyone.
The Fillery: Fantastic free breads and pastries. Their cronuts are to die for and addictive.
Subway Whitianga: Subways sandwich and wraps.
Umino Hoshi: Sushi and Japanese food.
Snapper Jacks Takeaway: Great fish and chips and burgers. Big as ice creams as well.
Whitianga Takeaways and Fresh Fish: Nice batter and good fish.
Buffalo Beach Takeaways: Good fish and kumera chips.
Master Kebab: A good Turkish offering of done kebabs, Iskender and salad.
Slice Slice Baby: Pizza and cakes and amazing Duck Island Ice cream.
